The extension of Illinois Route 53 into Lake County, Illinois, has been on paper for decades, with the first centerline survey prepared in 1971. The project now skirts a golf course and required the relocation and widening of Route 22, an intersecting roadway.

Legal descriptions and sections of the public land system were extensively researched to enable an accurate boundary site survey.
Centerline surveying and R.O.W. monumentation took place on heavily traveled Route 22, requiring additional safety considerations for the surveying crew.
Dedication plats were prepared by compiling several proposed centerline surveys. Final centerline geometry was calculated using multiple preliminary engineering plans going back as far as 1971.
