Manhard Consulting, Ltd. provided Preliminary and Final Design services for improvements to the Aptakisic Road and Leider Lane/Schelter Road intersection. Coordination was required with the Lake County Division of Transportation, the Village of Buffalo Grove and the Village of Lincolnshire. Due to development occurring on the north and south sides of Aptakisic Road, it was necessary to provide turn lanes and traffic signals to accommodate the additional traffic occurring at the intersection.
Preliminary Design elements included the preparation of a topographic survey, preparation of a Traffic Study to project the future traffic along Aptakisic Road and preparation of an Intersection Design Study to determine the required lane configuration for the intersection.
Due to the location of an underground electrical duct and the requirement to relocate existing overhead utilities, coordination was necessary with the utility agencies to accommodate all the improvements with the available space. Through negotiations with all parties, it was necessary to vacate and dedicate various easements for the utilities and Manhard Consulting prepared all Plats of Dedication and Vacation.
Final Plan elements for the intersection improvements included roadway widening and resurfacing with bituminous pavement sections, plan and profile sheets, drainage design, traffic signal design, erosion control plans, pavement marking plans, cross sections and opinion of probable construction costs.
