The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Arlington Heights, IL was a tenant finish project to convert an existing office space into a day rehabilitation center. Manhard Consulting provided survey, site civil, and landscape architecture services associated with the project.

The project featured a modified building entrance for the lab that included a new automatic sliding door constructed at the building face along with a patient drop-off and canopy cover. The new door and canopy presented challenges in meeting ADA requirements at the entry and in the existing parking field. Manhard studied multiple site planning options to arrive at a solution that meets ADA guidelines and fits with the lab access programming required by the owner. We worked closely with the architectural design team to optimize the site layout, particularly for ADA accessibility.

The new canopy also presented a challenge as we needed to find an economical solution for roof drainage. Manhard worked alongside the architectural team to find a solution that met the needs of the owner while providing sufficient drainage for the canopy roof.

This project was completed on time and on budget.
